May 2018 Newsletter
Mrs. Vaughan and Miss Emily
It’s hard to believe it’s May already! Where did the year go? May is a short, but busy month. We will be ending the year talking about camping, insects and life cycles. Our Dramatic Play area will be a campsite with a tent, grill, chairs, sleeping bags, etc… Our sensory table will be filled with fish gravel, plastic fish and aquarium plants. We will “fish” in the Science center as well as learn about life cycles/habitats. We will continue to watch our grass grow that we planted last month. We will be reviewing the alphabet from A-Z in our writing center. The children will “fly swat” letters, use Magna Doodles, play “going buggy”, a syllable sound match game, “catch a bug” letter sound match game and they will continue to trace and write in our spring writing station. We will name letters, match capital/lower case, sound recognition, beginning/ending sounds, etc… We will also use trays of sand to draw letters and short words. In the Math Center we will review numbers 1-20 through bug sorting, bug number mats, tracing/writing numbers and we will introduce beginning addition. We will also spend some time reviewing opposites, rhyming, measuring and graphing.
Please look for our classroom volunteer sign-up outside of our classroom. Also, if your child has a summer birthday and you would like us to celebrate, you are more than welcome to send in a snack for them to share. Please just let me know.
We will be reciting a poem for graduation. Some children will have a “line” to say, so please practice with them at home. We will also be practicing at school.
