 4’s December Preview

I love the Christmas season!  Look in any store and you can see the evidence that Christmas is just around the corner! We are working hard on our Christmas Program!  It’s cute to see the children standing by the CD player singing and doing the hand motions to the songs. We are going to have fun in class these two weeks!  On December 14th we will wear our PJ’s to school.  The Christmas party will be at 11:00 for AM class and 2:30 for PM class.  Santa will visit our classroom as well! December Activities and Curriculum

Literacy Centers

  • This month we will read stories with the Christmas season in mind, such as; the book Mouse’s First Christmas by Lauren Thompson. We will also include books with the letters of the week, such as; Should I Share My Ice Cream? by Mo Willems for the letter Ii.

  • The children will continue to practice writing their own names.  They are doing quite well!

  • We will also be tracing new letters.  For the next 2 weeks we'll be working on the letters Ii and Jj. We will be tracing letters on paper and in the air. We will also be reinforcing the letters by implementing them through art, play dough manipulation as well as reading related books.

NOTE:  When you are out and about, try pointing out the letter of the day.  A trip to Target can turn into a wonderful lesson by just looking at the signs and saying something like, “Hey, do you see the letter you just worked on in class?”

Math Centers

  • In the math center we will be guessing/estimating the number of candies in a jar.

  • We will be making sequencing cards to make a recipe.  We will make the recipe in class then you can put it in your recipe book so you and your child can make it again at home.  What a great way to get kids involved in the kitchen!

Science Centers

  • For Science we will have a Feely Box with christmas items inside for the children to guess what objects they are feeling. NO PEEKING!

  • We will make a white flower turn green with food coloring.

  • We will have a tasting activity and chart to see how many children like angel food cake vs. how many like fruit cake.

Dramatic Play

  • Our dramatic play area will be will be a gift wrapping station. If you have any extra gift wrap or bows you’d like to donate, they’d be much appreciated.

Our Spiritual lesson this month is Christmas.

  • We will sing songs:  “We Three Kings”,  “Away in a Manger”, “Joy to the World”, “Silent Night”, & We Wish You a Merry Christmas”
